Being born and raised a Daddy's Girl and a tomboy in the beautiful and rugged state of Montana means hunting is in my blood. My first Halloween costume was Daddy's Little Hunter, with my brother, which began the conditioning of that hunter at the young age of one. When I was two, my parents actually potty-trained me in two days by telling me I couldn't go spotting with Dad if I was in diapers. Yep, you read that right. I was so determined to go to the woods to look for the elusive and beautiful Rocky Mountain Elk that I got rid of diapers in two days. (Read full story From Diapers to Elk Hunter in the Sept/Oct issue of Bugle Magazine). I first learned to shoot a gun when I was eight. I started on my Dad's Ithica .22 single-shot rifle. The same gun my dad learned how to shoot when he was ten. From there I learned to shoot Dad's Smith and Wesson .22 revolving pistol. Then I moved from a paper target to gophers. Then the gun caliber got bigger and I learned to shoot shotguns. The first shotgun was Dad's lever-break .410. It is one of my favorites to this day. I've certainly shot a lot of rabbits with that gun. Come age twelve I got to take Hunter Education and go to the woods with a gun of my own. I started with Dad's first hunting rifle, a Savage .243 I have since upgraded upon. I now shoot my .270 Weatherby, which I love to death. I am very sentimental about family shootin' iron and this gun is one I will have forever. I can't believe how time has flown since I first picked up that .243. I am now going into my seventh season as a hunter, seven for six in elk harvest, something that wouldn't have been possible without the help of my favorite hunting partner and mentor, my Dad. In my efforts as a conservationist, I am in my fifth year of teaching Montana Hunter Education. In sum, I live to hunt, find my soul in the outdoors, like rippin' lips, enjoy hiking, and am an amateur and aspiring photographer.
